Kumo is a lounge chair created with the idea of boundless calm and timeless comfort. Born from a close collaboration between designer Anker Bak and master craftsman Masahiro Miyazaki, KUMO reimagines the traditional lounge chair - an interplay of the beauty of Danish design heritage and the sensibility of Japanese craftsmanship. Every element has been shaped with care and intention. The name KUMO, meaning “cloud” in Japanese, reflects the feeling Anker Bak wanted to capture: a sense of lightness, spaciousness, and quiet freedom. Inspired by memories of sitting in his grandparents’ lounge chair as a child, he recalls the sensation of floating, of time slowing down, and the simple act of gazing up at the sky. That experience became the emotional blueprint for KUMO. With KUMO, the Miyazaki Chair Factory - a manufactory renowned since 1969 for its exceptional quality - elevates craftsmanship to an even higher level by pushing the boundaries of both craftsmanship and technical refinement. The chair is fully functional with multiple reclining positions, crafted with meticulous precision. It features 64 specially manufactured parts in the highest-quality stainless steel and brass, seamlessly integrated to ensure smooth, durable adjustability. The development process was like assembling a 2000-piece puzzle, taking five years of dedicated work to perfect every detail. KUMO invites you to lean back, pause, and breathe.
